Beginning Painting Painting With Art by Shanni

Is your child yearning for something new? Art camp at AOA provides a wonderful way of introducing children to several forms of visual art. In our Beginning Painting Classes with Shanni, each day brings a new project which may include watercolors, acrylic painting, and painting on different mediums. In this specialty camp, the focus is on immersing your children in one specific media, painting. Open to all levels to build painting skills in a relaxed and imaginative environment. Curriculum includes the basics of value, perspective, and color mixing. 
 

  •   When: July 11-14th at 10am-1pm

  •  Where: AOA @ 516 E. Main St., Downtown Elizabeth City, NC (Twiford Room)

  •  Cost: $75 AOA members/ $85.00 non-members

     




    Toddler Paint & Create with Art by Shanni

    The youngest artists (toddlers) will learn the basics of art making by exploring colors and shapes while learning different painting and drawing techniques, at the same time improving their fine motor skills. Each day these little campers will also explore a new areas of AoA and engage in creative play. Projects include: Painting Piggy Banks, Bubble Art, Canvas painting and Hand/Foot Paintings.

Do I have to register?

We highly recommend registering as many classes fill up and seats are reserved for those who register. 
How far in advance should I register?
As early as possible to ensure that you will have a space.

What are the suggested ages?
Summer Art Camp Suggested Ages:

Beginning Painting: 5 & up
However if you have a younger child who would like to participate we have had some children as young as 3 years old paint in past groups and we encourage these children to come and paint. Shanni also has special items if you feel your child is not prepared for canvas. Please let her know you want to bring your younger children, and she will discuss all possible options.

Toddler Paint & Create:
Just as it says... Toddlers! 2 1/2 and up to ages 5. If older siblings 6, 7, 8, etc. would like to sign up to participate as well we would love to have them, but it should be expressed this class is centered around toddlers and their need for creative play while making art.


 
  



 
What do I bring with me?
You don’t have to bring anything, however, you are welcome to bring any drinks and light snacks.  Private Events may bring additional food items, however space is limited and we do not have a kitchen, so there is no refrigeration, coolers or ice available.


What should I wear?

Wear paint appropriate clothing, but Art by Shanni does provide each participant with an Apron to cover the front of your clothing. Our paints are mostly water based but still leave potential to stain. Art by Shanni takes no responsibility for paint stains so please make sure to dress accordingly for the areas our aprons do not cover.
When should I arrive?
Arts of the Albemarle will tell you exactly when to arrive when you register. Typically Art by Shanni requests that you arrive around 5-10 minutes early. It is understood this is can be difficult with toddlers and children.

Paint Parties

  • A lot of people have asked recently how to schedule a paint party for a child's birthday party or an adult group. I seem to get asked a lot of the same questions over and over, so in an effort to make life a little easier, I thought I would put all of the answers in one place for everyone. Please still feel free to ask me questions, and let me know if I missed anything. :)


FAQ :


What is the cost for a paint party?
Adult groups painting on 11 x14 canvas will pay $35.00 a person. Children Painting on 8x10 canvas will pay $20.00 a person. Unless otherwise noted or stated through advertisements or by Shanni directly.  (Other canvas sizes are available and pricing is based on canvas size picked)
Charity events bring different pricing because they are in place to raise money for a specific cause. Many times these events will cost an addition $5.00 to $10.00 a person.
What can I paint if I don't like the selected painting that day/night?
You can paint what I have selected for the group that night or send me a picture of what you want to do instead. If you pick a custom piece, you must be preregistered and paid in full. All of the prep work I do getting the canvas ready and prepared is time consuming and costly. When participants do not arrive for the party it can be very expensive for me to get the canvas back to its original condition again. I am always willing to make custom pieces though, and encourage all participants to send me their ideas!
Where are events held?
I do not have a specific location or studio. I host these events at public and private venues. Many people enjoy having these events in their own homes so they can bring their own food, drinks, etc. Some prefer to have them at a restaurant, or clubhouse. I can work out location information with you directly. 
What do I bring with me?
You don’t have to bring anything, however, you are welcome to bring any drinks and light snacks.  Private Events may bring additional food items, however space is limited when you are painting and we do not have a kitchen (unless your venue is at someone's home), so there is no refrigeration, coolers or ice available.

How do I register?
You have several options here simply visit the credit card pre-payment link: (Credit Card Pre-Payment) or contact Shanni directly (See link at top) about your venue, they may have a direct drop off location. (Please make sure this is an option, not all venues will be so accommodating). If no direct drop will be available, I am willing to meet with you, or have you drop a check in the mail prior to the party.  Of course cash is always an option, so please just talk with me first.

Select the name of your specific Paint Party, you will see a picture designated to your party, click on the picture. Then your will select the size you want (8x10, 11x14, custom, or if there is only one choice choose the only one listed). You will be directed through registration.  If you are registering for more than one person, please choose to purchase more than one item at that time. When you arrive at class you can also pay with cash or Mastercard/Visa cash/check if we are not sold out yet
PAYPAL: for those familiar you are welcome to use this feature as well please make a note the name of the event you are attending so I can have your canvas ready for you. Paypal email is: shanni1801@gmail.com

Which ever works best for the most people.
How far in advance should I register?
As early as possible to ensure that you will have a space. Adult groups are limited to 20 people and children's groups are limited to 15 spots so each child gets the undivided attention they deserve.  Private Events may be planned up to a year in advance, and based on the number of participants the group can accommodate.

What is the minimum age?
For kids classes, children 4-6 years old must have an adult stay with them. Adults are welcome to paint in the children’s class and pay the children’s rate, but do need reservations as well.When planning a private party, please note if you do not wish to have children paint that night, otherwise, there will be a children's rate and special size canvas available for them. If children are registered on an adult size canvas, they will pay adult size rates.
What should I wear?
Wear paint appropriate clothing, but Art by Shanni does provide each participant with an Apron to cover the front of your clothing. Our paints are acrylic and can stain sometimes, however they are water based. Art by Shanni takes no responsibility for paint stains so please make sure to dress accordingly for the areas our aprons do not cover.
When should I arrive?
Doors normally open 30 minutes prior to class start time and we highly recommend arriving at 10- 15 minutes early as our check in process takes a few minutes to get everyone signed in, paint distributed, etc.
OVERFLOW CLASS:

If any class reaches its max number, we will begin filling up for an overflow class, I will do my best with the overflow class date that accommodates the most people. Those wishing to attend the overflow class as well are certainly welcome and can register as well.

You have two options here simply visit the credit card pre-payment link: (Credit Card Pre-Payment)or drop off the payment in person to the mall manager's office behind the chocolate store (See Terri). 
CREDIT CARDS: CLICK HERE Credit Card Pre-Payment 

August 18th: Select Southgate Mall Charity Paint Party you will see a picture of a Mustache Cat click on the picture, select the cat and you will be directed through registration. (same process for all other classes) If you are registering for more than one person, please choose to purchase more than one item during checkout. Listing your child's age helps me prep, but is not mandatory.  When you register for this particular class, because of the very low fee it is non-refundable due to credit card fees. If you wish to register in person that is fine, or pay by other means, check, cash etc. that is also fine and refundable.  When you arrive at class you can also pay with cash, check, or Mastercard/Visa if we are not sold out ye, but we will make every effort to fit in all children! 

TODDLERS: I have toddler appropriate items that can be painted if you would like to bring your child to paint and worry that canvas painting is too hard. I have ceramic items your child can start out on. Children as young as 18 months old have painted these items successfully in the past. Please talk with me about these items before purchasing.
